Review: Neutrogena Sun Serum Sunscreen

Sunscreen. Probably the most essential step for your skincare routine. We probably cringe at the thought of a sunscreen that is white and pasty. The dream is a sunscreen that feels and looks like a moisturizer. But, you are probably not far from obtaining your dream sunscreen. What you are probably dreaming of right now is an Asian sunscreen. I think I have somehow found a western sunscreen that feels like an Asian sunscreen. In this post, I will review Neutrogena sun serum. Will it beat my HG Asian Sunscreen?

Asian Sunscreen 101

First, to compare this with Asian sunscreen we have to review Asian sunscreen overall. The accessibility, the problems, etc.

Where to buy Asian sunscreen?

Accessibility: You might be asking, where to get Asian sunscreen? I’m not going to lie it is pretty hard to get Asian sunscreen. Usually, when I find Asian sunscreen in stores it is double the price compared to if you were to buy it in Asia. I typically buy my Asian sunscreen online. Some good Korean sunscreen options are: 1, 2, and 3.

Asian sunscreen controversy

The Problems: You prob remember there was a time when most Korean sunscreens did not pass the test. Leaving us wondering if Korean or Asian sunscreen is actually safe.  If Korean sunscreen can be trusted or are Asian sunscreens even effective? But we do have to remember there are also American sunscreens that haven’t passed the test. About 13 to 35 sunscreen here in America failed the test. Many were less than what they claimed. Many that failed were less than 30 SPF (https://www.cnn.com/2016/05/18/health/sunscreen-false-spf-claims-on-labels)

My thoughts:  Neutrogena Sun serum sunscreen

Texture:

The Neutrogena sun serum feels like a serum. It is a very lightweight sunscreen with no smell.  Since it is a chemical sunscreen there is little to no white cast.

Hydrating?

I heard many people claim that it is a moisturizing sunscreen. But… I honestly didn’t find it moisturizing at all. Although it has serum in its name it’s not very hydrating.  So if you have dry skin hoping this sunscreen would help moisturize your skin, I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

Is it comparable to Asian sunscreen?

Yes but also No.

The Neutrogena Sun serum is an easy sunscreen – meaning it doesn’t leave a white cast and it’s a great sunscreen if you want to reapply throughout the day.

However, if you were to compare it to Asian sunscreen, it’s not really the same.

When I last went to Japan, which was a while ago. But when you go to Japan you can find some sunscreen for 7 or 8 dollars while you find it double in store. This sunscreen is about 13 for a tiny bottle, which is kind of pricey.

BUT It might be worth checking out.

Is it similar to Asian sunscreen? Somewhat. Asian sunscreens are typically weightless and this sunscreen fits the bill. But it is not my all-time favorite sunscreen.

Overview:
  • Price:  $12
  • Rating: 3.8
  • Repurchase? Maybe. Decent but Asian sunscreens are a tad better
  • Skin types: All skin types
  • Made my fungal acne worst? Not that I noticed
  • Where to buy:  Amazon

Conclusion: Neutrogena Sun serum sunscreen Review

Would I buy it again? Probably, when I’m in a pinch. I love to use the Neutrogena Sun Serum when I want to reapply sunscreen throughout the day. It is great because it doesn’t disrupt my makeup. It is a good option if you can’t find Asian sunscreen this is a good substitute. But if given a choice between an Asian sunscreen or this Neutrogena sunscreen I would choose an Asian sunscreen. I would much rather choose this one, given the price, the application, and the reliability.
