Good Molecules vs The Ordinary: Which is Better?

Affordable skincare is something that has always intrigued me. Effective skincare doesn’t have to be expensive and The Ordinary and Good Molecules is a good example of that. Over the years I have tried many products from The Ordinary and liked many of their products but I have yet to try Good Molecules. I had heard many good things about the Good Molecules and decided to try a couple of their products. In this post, I will be comparing a couple of products from Good Molecules (essentially a Good Molecules vs The Ordinary) and see which one better.

Good Molecules vs The Ordinary

To be honest, I haven’t been using The Ordinary for a while now. Mainly because of my fungal acne and the majority of the items from The Ordinary weren’t fungal acne safe. Even though my fungal acne has subsided, I still haven’t reached for it.

Don’t get me wrong, I like products from The Ordinary and I find that it is super accessible and affordable. But… the thing is, sometimes I feel like the formulations aren’t the greatest. In order, to get the benefits you want you must combine 2 or more bottles, which could really add up. They aren’t bad products but you really get what you pay for.

That’s why I wanted to try out The Good Molecules. They have a similar philosophy to The Ordinary but they are a tad expensive due to their more elegant formulation. Here are a couple of items I tested and what I thought:

Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening toner

The Ordinary Niacinamide Serum is a well-loved product from The Ordinary. Compared to the Niacinamide serum from The Ordinary, I liked the Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner way better. I don’t know if its just me, but I rarely reach for the Niacinamide serum from The Ordinary. There is just something about it.

I know lots of people love The Ordinary Niacinamide serum, but I don’t really see a difference when I use it. Furthermore, the way it always makes a white crust around the rim of the bottle and every time it would pill up when I layer it with something breaks my heart a little. On the other hand, the Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening toner is much easier to use. Since it is in a toner format, it is less likely for it to pill up and easier to deal with. I also found that my skin is liking the toner better.

Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum

I tried almost all of the vitamins c, arbutin serums from The Ordinary. Basically, all the brightenings serum for discoloration from The Ordinary but none of which was outstanding. I did like The Ordinary Vitamin C powder but later found that I got lazy and couldn’t be bothered by mixing the powder with a cream.

For its price, It is a good product, but if you want something simpler and effective the Good Molecule Discoloration Correcting Serum is probably the way to go. I think the combination of tranexamic acid and niacinamide heavenly and definitely worth a try. If you like the ordinary but want a little upgrade this serum is worth a try.

Conclusion: Which is better

I do like The Ordinary but as mention before, you kind of get what you pay for. Honestly, after L’oreal has taken over the company, I think mass production is really high on their list. and… usually, that means lower quality products (Of course, that’s not always the case, but you just never really know).

Although I do love The Ordinary but their formulations aren’t always the best. It is especially hard if you have to layer 2 or more bottles for your specific needs.

Will I continue to buy The Ordinary products? Yes.

But will I be more likely to buy Good Molecule? Highly likely.

In the end, I really liked the products I tried out from the Good Molecule. I found them quite affordable (although not as affordable as The Ordinary), they are very effective and well formulated. If you have tried out The Ordinary and ready to level up your skin game, The Good Molecule Niacinamide toner and Discolouration correcting are two great options to try out.
