Fungal Acne 101: How To Treat

Fungal acne is not acne at all. Rather is it a type of yeast that infects the hair follicles, You can read more about fungal acne here –  Intro: What is fungal acne? In this post, we will go over how to treat fungal acne, a short-term treatment, and long-term treatment.

How To Treat Fungal Acne:

A Quick Treatment: If you just want to see if you have fungal acne, and want an easy and affordable treatment and want it to go away instantly. Typically you want something with ketoconazole, zinc, or sulfur and usually, anti-dandruff shampoo is loaded with them.

Most Effective: The most favorite treatment is leaving the Nizoral shampoo for  2 minutes and follow it up with a honey mask. I find the Nizoral shampoo can be drying on the skin. I find that the older the bottle the more gentle it is. Since it is so drying, don’t leave it on for more than 10 min. Always follow it up with a hydrating toner or mask.

Selsun Blue is also another anti-dandruff shampoo that you can use. It is gentler than Nizoral and less drying. I find it less effective than Nizoral, but also isn’t as drying. If you have dry skin, this might be the one to try.

Gentle: Many people find that when they leave head and shoulders shampoo for 10minutes they see a big difference. I personally haven’t tried head and shoulders shampoo but it quite affordable, so it is worth trying out.

Long Term Treatment:

Fungal Acne was a life-term journey. It took me years to finally perfect my skincare routine that is fungal acne safe while targeting my skin needs.
