5 products to prevent dry skin

I don’t know about you but when I go traveling, my skin goes crazy and dries out like a shriveled raisin.  To make sure you don’t get dry skin on a flight or dry skin, in general, I made a list of 5 products to hydrate your skin. Whether you have dry skin or want to prevent dry skin, here are my tips to keep your skin hydrated.

5 products to bring on a flight/ dry skin

1.Use a hydrating toner/essence

What exactly is a toner? A toner is usually a watery-light liquid that serves many purposes. Not only do they restore the skin’s pH, they hydrate the skin and removes the remaining debris left from your skin. They tend to contain active ingredients, which can be soothing, hydrating, calming and even astringent. Typically, western toners are astringent (which I try to avoid) and can contain high amounts of alcohol that can strip your skin making it dry and vulnerable.

What is a hydrating toner? A hydrating toner usually contains skin restoring ingredients and other ingredients to hydrate the skin.  After removing all my makeup, this is the first thing I apply when I am on a flight. By using a hydrating toner you prepare the skin for the hydration.

But what does it mean to prepare the skin for hydration?

Imagine your skin is a dry sponge. When you initially wet your sponge, the sponge does not absorb any of the water. This is like your skin. When your skin is dry, it will not absorb any products. If you do not hydrate your skin, all the other steps you plan to use afterwards will not penetrate into the skin. So all the products you applied will not work as effectively as possible.

Here are some of my current favorite toners:

Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence Rose Edition – Not exactly a toner, but it contains lots of ingredients for a healthy, glowy complexion. It isn’t the most hydrating product, but it will give your skin any nutrients that it needs or missing to keep it looking healthy.

Whamisma Organic Flowers Deep Rich Essence Toner – Unlike the Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence, this is thicker in texture. It is extremely rich, but it absorbs into the skin quite quickly. If your skin is extremely dry I would definitely recommend you try it as a 7- layer skin method,  it a great replacement for a moisturizer.

Mists -Almost like toners

The lazy girl’s best friend. Mists have all the benefits of a toner but in a handy spray format. They are especially great if you can’t be bothered with applying toner. They basically are toners packaged conveniently in a bottle.

Some of my recommendations

Caudalie Beauty Elixir– A cult favorite. It contains grape extracts and clarifying ingredients to provide an immediate burst of radiance, Perfect for those who are lazy and can’t be bothered to apply stuff on your face. If you have sensitive skin I would probably avoid this product.  There are essential oils so it could irritate your skin, especially on sensitive skin. I, however,  quite like the smell of the essential oils, it is quite relaxing and soothing.

3. Sheet Mask

Sheet Masks are basically face masks that are jammed packed with nutrients and active ingredients. They are especially great when your skin needs special attention. I don’t think I will ever be brave enough to use sheet masks on the planes. Wearing a sheet mak on a plane always make me feel super self-conscious.  I tend to use the masks after I arrive at my travel destination.   If you are a brave soul and willing to wear a sheet mask one on the plane, I have high respect for you and I would highly recommend you do.

My HG masks that saved my dry skin: Leaders Aquaringer Mask– This mask is my miracle mask, it saved my skin after my trip to Singapore. No matter what I did, my skin still felt like an alligator. I tried everything and nothing helped at all. This was the only thing that could return my skin back to normal state.

MerBlissWedding Dress Mask– If you are brave and willing to wear a mask on the plane, this is the mask I recommend. It creates a layer on your skin to prevents any moisture lost. And since airplanes are known to sucks all moisture from your skin, this will prevent that from happening.

5 products to bring on a flight/ dry skin sleeping mask

4.Sleeping Mask

Sleeping Masks are basically sheet masks but in a gel format. You get all the nutrients and hydration without needing to wear a sheet mask. And  BEST of all, you can just fall asleep with it. If you are not brave like me to wear a sheet mask on the plane, I highly recommend a sleeping mask. When you apply the mask, it is basically clear. It acts as a barrier and preventing any moisture lost. This is especially important since in the plane the air is recycled and sucks all the moisture from your skin.

Some of my favorite sleeping masks:

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask– I recommended this sleeping mask because it is one of the classic sleeping masks and everyone probably has it on hand. Nothing to complain about, it is hydrating and smells nice.

Too Cool for School Pumpkin Sleeping Pack– I love this sleeping mask. Whenever I use this mask I wake up with hydrated glowy skin! It contains the superfood pumpkin and natural enzymes to give the nutrition that your skin needs.

5. Moisturizer

Of course, the most obvious item to keep your face hydrated is a moisturizer. I would apply this after sheet mask but before sleeping masks to trap the moisture in your skin.

I love the: Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum – Classic moisturizer for your skin. It is a thin moisturizer that absorbs immediately into the skin. I always use this for my hands that are prone to eczema, this serum always helps hydrates it. If it works for my dry hands it must work for your face.

Cosrx Advanced Snail 92 All In One Cream – I recently just bought this but after using this my skin looked and felt super hydrated. I would super recommend! Also since it is a snail cream, you get the added benefit of scar repairing!
