Garnier Skinactive Micellar Water Waterproof Makeup Remover

I did a review quite a while ago, reviewing all the makeup removers I have tried from the drugstore [here]. I tried tons of cleansing oils since that was my go-to way of cleansing.  Micellar water on the other hand, I have never tried. I remember trying the Garnier gentle micellar water and was deeply disappointed and never gave micellar water even a second glance.

Although I adore cleansing oils, I always use waterproof mascara so there is a lot of rubbing especially around the eyes. I already have quite a few fine lines around my eyes and I definitely don’t want to see anymore anytime soon.

On an impulse, I decided I needed to stop rubbing my eyes and I grabbed a random micellar water and ended up with Garnier Waterproof Micellar Water. Although I was disappointed with the gentle version I had to try the waterproof one out to see if it was really worth the hype.

What is so special about this micellar water

First, how does micellar water actually work? From way back when I was in school, I remember learning what detergent were and what they actually do. I remember that one type of detergent was micelle. Skipping all the science, these micelles basically clump up all the dirt into little balls, resulting in a clean surface or in this case clean skin.

It apparently is a multi-purpose cleanser, that cleanses the skin and removes makeup. It does all this without rubbing, and without over-drying the skin.

What I thought

I honestly thought I would not like it. I thought that I would find it annoying to hold a cotton pad on one eye and wait for the makeup to dissolve. BUT that wasn’t the case. While I waited for the makeup to dissolve, I was able to watch some youtube videos or watch some Netflix to pass time. In the end, I used up to 3 cotton pads at one time. Considering that my mascara is a hard mascara to remove, I thought it did a great job. PLUS I didn’t have to rub around the eyes as much. A huge plus for me. It does leave a slight residue, so I definitely recommend a second cleanse to remove the slight residue.

Conclusion

Unexpectedly I ended up loving this micellar water. Although it might seem like a bother to wait for your makeup to dissolve, it is worth it. By doing this, you are avoiding all the rubbing you are doing to your eyes compared to when you are using a cleansing oil. I would recommend Garnier Waterproof Makeup Remover to anyone who uses makeup. Just make sure you don’t pick up the gentle version as it cannot remove tough makeup at all.
