If you are not new to the face mask game you probably heard of the brand JayJun. JayJun is a brand developed by the surgeons and dermatologist at one of Korea’s most renowned cosmetics and skincare clinics.

Refine to Shine Real Water Brightening Black 3 step mask is one of JayJun best sellers.  It has lots of active ingredients like Niacinamide which helps your skin look clearer and glowier by preventing the generation of melanin, adenosine to help wrinkle prevention, hyaluronic acid to help moisturize your skin, and other ingredients like betaine, beta-glucan and ceramide.  With that being said this mask is not short in beneficial ingredients.

JayJun did something quite different with their mask, most masks that are black, are made out or has charcoal in it, mainly for acne prone skin. It is strange that they used a charcoal based mask it for a brightening mask. It is not a bad thing, though, the charcoal gets rid of excess skin cells and sebum.  Not only does this mask contains charcoal but also lava water from Jeju Island, which has calming properties to help relieve stressed skin.

The mask has: 3 steps

Step 1: Real Water Cleansing Foam

It has papaya extract to help soften and clean pores, and Jeju lava water to help hydrate your skin, leaving your skin feeling smooth and firm.

Step 2: Vita Snow Essence

It has high concentrations of vitamins to help strengthen the skin and brighten the skin.

Final Step: Real Water Brightening Black Mask

Not only is their mask has charcoal in it but it contains many other things like vitamin B3, sodium hyaluronate, yeast glucan, ceramide and other ingredients for to help change your skin from dull and tired skin to bright and glowy.

What I thought of it

Although it is not the most eye-catching packaging, but it one of the established brands in Korea.

The cleanser was alright but it was really soapy. It makes your skin feel like it is smooth but the same time, it feels like some residue was left. To be honest, I always forget to use this step. Not really forget but most of the time I have already washed my face and applied my essences and serums before picking out which mask to use, so I just use it in the morning (which I might have lost in the process).

The serum was a clear gel that felt really light, almost felt like water. Although you expect the serum to be absorbed right away into the skin since it is so light. It doesn’t t. Just make sure you pat the serum until it is absorbed into the skin.

The mask was black, kind of smell a little weird. I do know how to describe it, but it doesn’t linger. Which is great. The mask was perfectly drenched in essence. Those who like extra essence from the pouch, don’t expect any from this mask.

Overall, the mask was okay, I didn’t see much difference in tightening of the pores. Brightening wise I did see a little of brightening effect but not a lot. However, I did notice it calmed down the redness in my skin, quite a bit. If you wanted an intense brightening mask, this mask might not be for you. However, if yo just want to destress your stressed skin, while giving it a quick pick me up, this mask is the way to go.
