Ever since I got my hair lighten at a salon my hair always gets brassy after a couple months. Knowing this I bought 2 boxes of hair dye before I left Japan. I  grab two boxes of Prettia Creamy Bubble Hair Color in British Ash. I believe it is a new color release since I never saw this color back in Vancouver.  Before I  left Japan, I used one of the hair dyes and dyed my hair.

Here are all the items included in the box. You get a step 1 ( color), Step 2 (activator), gloves, pump, and conditioner.

These were the instructions included in the box. Obviously, there is no way I can read the Japanese instructions. However, most Prettia hair dyes work pretty much the same. Using my past experiences and the provided pictures, I managed to decipher the instructions. Make sure you have enough product! I have shoulder length hair and there was a ton of product left.

STEP 1

You basically pour step 1 into step 2, without shaking too vigorously. You invert the bottle for about 5 times. After the two liquids are combined,  you change the lid to a pump.

Invert the bottle SLOWLY 5 times

After the two liquids are combined,  you change the lid to a pump.

STEP 2

Wear your gloves and squeeze the bottle to dispense the foam.

STEP 3

Make sure you have a dirty/old shirt on, so the hair dye doesn’t ruin your clothes. The instruction says to start at the roots of your hair but honestly, I wouldn’t do that. Usually, there is heat from your scalp, so that part always turns lighter than your ends. You definitely don’t want that look. I started with my ends then put on the roots last. After all or most of the product is in your hair, take some time to gently massage your scalp to achieve an even color.

Step 4

Wait 30-40 minutes.

Step 5

Rinse, shampoo and use the conditioner that came with the box.

My HAir before dying it

Here is how my hair looked like before dying my hair. As you can see my hair was initially very brassy. You can see that the ends, my hair is lighter that is because it has been bleached and highlighted. My roots are darker and have never been dyed.

After Dying my hair

I quite like the darker look. My sister says I look more emo, but I think it looks quite okay. The ashiness is quite nice as well. After the first shampoo, there were obvious strands of green in my hair. These strands were really obvious especially at the tips of my hair where it has been bleached and highlighted. After a few more washes the strands were not as green. Sadly, like the green strands, the ashiness doesn’t stay for long. However, the roots of my hair were not green like the ends of my hair. Instead, it was a lighter brown. After two weeks, my hair was less green and more of an even brown. Here is my hair after 2 weeks of dying my hair.

As I mentioned before, I used the same British Ash in the before picture. Which means you get to see how the color will look if you do not plan to dye your hair again. My before picture was 4 months after dying my hair. So if you leave your hair, in 4 months your hair will look like the before picture. Probably darker if you have virgin hair.

What I thought

Compared to my brassy hair I  quite like the ash brown color. Like most box hair dyes, it made my hair a little dry. However, after a couple washes and hair masks, my hair feels normal again.

The application is easy, it can be easily done by yourself. Pretty much mess free.

I am, however, a little disappointed about the longevity. I loved the ashiness, but the ashiness doesn’t stay for long. The end result of brown hair isn’t that bad either. Although I had lots of roots, the end result is an even color.

Conclusion

Would I buy again? Heck yes! I loved the color, although it was short lived. I would recommend purple shampoo to make sure the hair color lasts longer.
