There is a time when every beauty junkie, ask themselves if they should invest in the Clarisonic or not? In this post, you can read about my experience after using the Clarisonic

I think there is a time where every beauty junkie asks themselves an important question. If they should buy the Clarisonic or not?

It is a big investment. It is not some $10 product that you can carelessly toss out if you don’t like it anymore. Not only is it a big investment, but you also have to buy the replacement brush every 3 months.

When you invest so much for skin care, you expect amazing results. However, there is a lot of debate on whether the Clarisonic is even good for your skin. In this post, I will explain the deciding factors you should take into account before you buy the Clarisonic.

Deciding factors before you buy the Clarisonic

There are many deciding factors before you buy the Clarisonic

  1. Will it purge your skin?
  2. Who should use it?
  3. Will it improve your skin?

Will it purge Your skin?

After my experience after buying the mia3, I have one thing to say:

Expect to purge.

It is a known fact that there is a purging stage when you start your Clarisonic journey, and they weren’t kidding. Needless to say when I started using the Clarisonic … I broke out.

I was super surprised, I thought I have pretty clean and tough skin. There isn’t a day that I don’t cleanse my skin. I also use acids and even peels from time to time. So I thought I wouldn’t purge. But I did. I even used the Clarisonic sparingly, once every week just in case my skin was sensitive but whenever I used it, a line of pimple formed where I used the Clarisonic.

Many people claim that you must endure the purging stage to see better skin. But honestly, when your skin is purging, all it means is that your skin is irritated. Yes… maybe the Clarisonic cleans better than your hands, but so what? Your skin shouldn’t be squeaky clean in the first place. In doing so it might remove the protective barrier aka skin barrier, which is important for healthy skin.

The skin barrier is extremely important. The skin barrier help keeps the moisture in and prevents germs from getting in. When there is an increase in water loss, most likely it means the skin barrier has been damaged somehow. It is shown that after using the Clarisonic {1} there is an increase in water loss, especially for a dry skin individual.

Like it or not, the Clarisonic is an exfoliating product. Anything that removes dead skin cells is an exfoliating product. Too much exfoliating isn’t good the skin. Over-exfoliating causes harm to your skin barrier. Which in turn, cause more pimples and dry skin.

Who I would recommend it to?

In general, Clarisonic is not my favorite cleansing device. Honestly, the best tool is your hands. Compared the Clarisonic, your hands don’t damage your skin barrier and its way cheaper.

If you really want a cleansing device, the Clarisonic is a good quality device, it recharges and is high quality compared to other devices but you must be willing to go through the purging stage.

Even if you think you have like tough skin as I did. I wouldn’t recommend using the Clarisonic more than 2-3 times a week. Unless you have super oily skin that is indestructible.

Did it my skin improve?

Not that I noticed. Ever since I noticed that I got a line of pimples wherever I used the Clarisonic, I was too scared to use it.

Conclusion

In the end, should you buy the Clarisonic? If you are on the fence, I would recommend the Clarisonic if only you have oily and tough skin. Even then, I think you shouldn’t use twice a day. Instead, use it a few times a week. If you have anything other than oily skin your skin might get irritated, turn dry or even worst, you might break out.
