Tips: Skincare I wouldn't buy again

Skincare I Won’t Buy Again

Through my skincare journey, I have learned a few things about my skin. Initially, I thought the harsher the product, the more effective the product was. It was not until I realized that any type of irritation is bad for your skin. That means any harsh scrubs or chemical exfoliants could be making your skin barrier weak. In the long run, it could mean earlier signs of aging. This post will go over which skincare products I won’t ever buy again.

Harsh Exfoliants

I think there was a time when harsh exfoliants were all the rage. The harsher you can find the better it was. Little did I know, these could really ruin your skin barrier. After over-exfoliating my skin too many times to count. I finally learned harsher exfoliant does not mean better. Especially when over-exfoliating always meant a new pimple {for me anyways}.

Harsh exfoliants include both a physical scrub or a chemical exfoliant. Here are some exfoliants I tried out and probably won’t be buying again.

Ole Henriksen Balancing Force Oil Control Toner

The Ole Henriksen Oil Control Toner can be super harsh. I mainly bought this because I had tiny bumps on my forehead. No matter what I did, they wouldn’t go away. This toner initially helped but later made it worst. It was not until I figured out they were not whiteheads at all. Spoiler, it was fungal acne.

You can read about Fungal Acne 101 here if you never heard of it. After I switched my skincare routine into a fungal acne-safe routine my skin cleared up. In the end, I never reach for this toner.

Cosrx Two In One Poreless Power Liquid

Cosrx is well known for its affordable yet gentle products. This particular chemical exfoliant isn’t as harsh as Ole Henriksen, but I don’t think I like it. Every Cosrx chemical exfoliant has never really worked for my skin. It is either too harsh or too gentle. This toner in particular didn’t do anything for my skin.

Drunk Elephant TLC Sukari BabyFacial

At first, I really like the Drunk Elephant TLC Sukari BabyFacial product { You can read my previous review here}. Although it did initially burned my skin and  I had to heal my skin barrier, it kinda made my skin glow.  Like super shiny.

Maybe a little too shiny… Shiny skin isn’t always a good thing. Sometimes over-exfoliating your skin can result in skin that looks shiny and raw. That’s why shiny skin isn’t always good.

Although it did make my skin look shiny, it is just too harsh for my skin.

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

Just like the Drunk Elephant TLC BabyFacial, I thought this exfoliant would be life-changing. Everyone always talked about The Ordinary AHA Peeling Solution as the affordable version of the Drunk Elephant Babyfacial. I eventually bought it. Although it exfoliated my skin well, I just think this is way too exfoliating for my skin now.

Mud Mask

Just like the harsh exfoliants, mud masks can be incredibly harsh. If mud masks are left too long they can dry your skin out. Especially if you do not properly moisturize your skin afterward. These were some of my favorite mud masks to dry out my acne.  Needless to say. I do not use these masks anymore.

Cattier Gommage Aloe Vera Clay Scrub

The Cattier White Clay Alove Vera Mask is on the gentler side and doesn’t dry out your skin as much. If you want a clay mask that doesn’t suck your skin dry this is a good option.

Vichy Normaderm 3 in 1 Scrub + Cleanser + Mask

The Vichy Exfoliant is a good option as well. I don’t think this mask is too bad compared to other mud masks. This exfoliant you can use as both a cleanser or a mud mask. It does have beads, which means it could be a bit harsh. If you want a mud mask but don’t think you can you use a whole tube, this is a good option.

Conclusion:

Be more gentle to your skin. Although your skin can handle the irritation now, it can still damage your skin. Your skin is the largest organ you have and the only one you get, take care of it.
