When the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD foundation came out, I went straight to Sephora to pick up a bottle. I heard great things about the original formula and had high expectations. According to Sephora it:

  • “Creates a naturally flawless complexion—on and off camera”
  • “Completely invisible under the latest, super-focused 4k lens”
  • “Medium-to-buildable coverage with an even lighter weight”
  • “Second-skin texture that looks just like skin”
  • “Long lasting with a natural-looking finish”

I currently have normal to dry skin. I picked up the shade 125= Y315 and I think its a pretty good match.

I have been testing this foundation for quiet some time and I wouldn’t say the foundation is a holy grail product. First off the longevity of the foundation a little disappointing. Without a primer it last roughly 5-6 hours. If you plan to wear it to work or out for longer than 6 hours, I would recommend using a primer and a setting powder.

However I love the finish of the foundation, it indeed has a skin like finish. It blends seemingly into the skin almost like a second skin. It never cakes regardless on how much you put on. However I do find that the foundation stops building coverage despite how much you put on. I find that it builds up to a medium coverage, but it won’t be able to fully build to full coverage. Nonetheless, the foundation does a great job evening the overall complexion but it will let your freckles poke through and with bits of hyperpigmentation.

You can see in the photo below that the foundation evened my skin tone but it doesn’t fully cover hyperpigmentations and freckles  (right no foundation, left with MUFE foundation).

Although I do like the finish of the foundation, it just doesn’t last long enough or provide enough coverage for me. Admittingly, I was a little dissatisfied with the foundation but I have found way to love it despite its downfalls. My favourite way of using this foundation is mixing it with a bit of L’oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte foundation (shade 102).  When mixed together I still get a skin like finish while getting the staying power and coverage from the L’oreal foundation than if MUFE foundation were to used on its own.

IMG_4082Overall this foundation is great if you want a skin like finish and a foundation that never cakes. It will leave your skin looking quite natural but if you have some hyperpigmentation, make sure you have a primer and some concealers on hand. Although I do like the skin like finish from the MUFE foundation I don’t know if it’s worth $50 especially when I have to spend extra money to spend on a primer or a foundation to get it the formula I want.

What do you think?

Sincerly,

Michelle
