Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion Review

If you are not new to the skincare game, you probably know some of the cult favorites from Reddit. One product I have constantly heard about on the Reddit community was the Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion. Since I typically like rice and fermented product will this toner impress me? In this post, I will review the kikumasamune High Moist Lotion and see if it is worth the hype.

Brand: Kikumasamune

Brand story

Kikumasamune is a traditional 360-year-old Japanese sake brewery. However, in 2012 they started selling a lactic acid toner by using the byproduct from sake fermentation. Their products did so well that they expanded their selection of Japanese sake cosmetics to include emulsion, creams, face wash, face cleanser, and more.

What Exactly is the Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion?
  • A sake-based toner or also known as a fermented rice drink
  • The sake used to create this Japanese skin care lotion is high-quality Junmai Ginjo sake from Kikumasamune brewery
  • Sake is packed with many amino acids which are good for the skin
  • Very moisturizing so suitable for dry and rough skin

Sake as an Antiaging Ingredient?

Should you include sake in your skincare routine?

You might be asking is sake good for your skin?  In short, yes. Probably one of the most famous sake toners is the SK11 toner. Although not technically not a “sake” toner, they discovered their secret ingredient when they noticed the hands of sake brewers were young and youthful contrasted to their wrinkled and aged faces.

Sake as a skincare ingredient is very promising, extensive research shows that sake is a great ingredient for anti-aging. Sake contains koji acid which has been shown to brighten the skin and alpha-d-glycosylgycerol to help improve the skin’s elasticity and even help your skin look younger.

My Thoughts – Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion Review

I love rice and fermented products like I’m from Rice Toner and Neogen Real Ferment toner. I have always found fermented products and rice products to be the most effective on my skin. Plus the number of research papers shows how effective rice ferment can help with antiaging.

I wouldn’t say I do everything to prevent antiaging or scared of aging. Knowing that sake is a great ingredient to slow down the aging process makes me want to incorporate it into my skincare routine.

Is there a difference
  • There is probably no way of the long-term effects of this product but I haven’t seen a huge difference yet. I did notice it made my skin feels more hydrated, a bit softer and a bit brighter. BUT it also left my skin feeling a bit tacky as well.
  • However, A BIG, however. Kikumasaume toner is really smelly. It is definitely not the best-smelling toner. Some people say it smells like smelly feet. I wouldn’t say they are wrong. It smells somewhat like feet but to me, it smells more like sake.
Not a gamechanger
  • I wouldn’t say it is a game-changer toner, but it is an affordable toner that could help your skin in the long run. Probably the only thing that will get people is definitely the smell. It is a toner with great ingredients. It helps hydrate, brighten, and soften your skin.
Beware the smell
  • Yes. One thing you should know before buying the product is that it might be smelly.
  • I heard that it might smell like feet, and if you are sensitive to smell, this might be not for you.

Comparisons

kikumasamune vs nature

There is a big difference between these two Japanese toners. kikumasamune is a sake-based toner whereas Naturie Hatamogi toner is made from coix seed extract. since the Kikimasamune is made from sake it could help with antiaging. Whereas Naturie toner is a great toner that you can always rely on.

Although the Naturie Toner doesn’t sound that exciting is a great option when you don’t know what to use when your skin is angry at you or if you are trying to narrow down what ingredient isn’t working well with your skin. A great option if you have fungal acne or acne-prone skin. My go-to if I want a simple affordable toner that I can always rely on.

kikumasamune vs hada labo

These toners are also very different. The Kikumasamune toner is a sake toner whereas Hada Labo toners are hyaluronic-based toners. Kikumasamune toners help with antiaging whereas Hada Labo focuses on hydrating the skin. Both are somewhat sticky and hydrating. If want you want long-term antiaging benefits kikumsaume might be the one to pick.

Overview:
  • Price:  $15
  • Rating: 4
  • Repurchase? Maybe. Great Affordable option. Great for antiaging Option
  • Skin types: All skin types
  • Made my fungal acne worst? Not that I noticed
  • Where to buy: Toner: YesStyle, Amazon

Conclusion

Would I Repurchase it? Maybe. Kikumasamune High Moist Toner is a decent affordable toner, it is hydrating, a bit brightening, and made my skin softer. Would I  replace it with my HG toners like I’m from rice toner or neogen real ferment toner? Maybe not. I would use this toner as a mid-day hydration, or just when my skin is feeling a bit dry. However, I don’t think it can replace any of my hg toners.
