Review: May Coop Raw Sauce

My journey into the Korean beauty world began with BB creams, which were once hard to find but now are ubiquitous in beauty stores. Over the years, Korean skincare has become a staple in many routines, celebrated for its clear and radiant results. Korean beauty regimens often involve a range of products including toners, ampoules, serums, and essences, each serving a specific purpose.

With the rise of Korean skincare, brands like May Coop have gained significant attention. One of their standout products is the May Coop Raw Sauce, which has been receiving a lot of buzz. This product is designed to serve as a toner, essence, and lotion all in one. But what exactly differentiates a toner, essence, and lotion?

Understanding Toner, Essence, and Lotion

Toner

A toner is typically applied after cleansing to balance the skin’s pH levels. Proper pH balance is crucial for healthy skin—an imbalance can lead to irritation or acne. Toners also prepare the skin to absorb subsequent products more effectively and can offer additional benefits depending on their formulation.

Essence

Essence falls between a toner and a serum. While it contains beneficial ingredients, it is less concentrated than a serum. Its primary role is to provide extra moisture and improve the skin’s texture without being as astringent as a toner.

Lotion

In Korean skincare, a lotion is a lightweight moisturizer, not to be confused with the watery Japanese version used as a toner. Korean lotions help to hydrate and lock in moisture.

What Makes May Coop Raw Sauce Special?

Key Ingredient: Acer Mono Sap

The star ingredient in May Coop Raw Sauce is Acer Mono Sap, derived from a maple plant native to the mountains of Korea. Often referred to as “bone lifting water,” this sap is rich in minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium. It is reputed for its skin-whitening and anti-aging properties.

Claims of May Coop Raw Sauce

  • Deep Absorption: The sap particles are tiny, allowing them to penetrate deeply into the skin.
  • Hydration and Nourishment: Provides essential hydration and nutrients.
  • Inner Glow: Aims to create a radiant, glowing complexion.

The product comes in a glass bottle with a wooden cap, which adds a natural touch. Although it lacks a pump, its slightly thicker consistency prevents messiness, and only a few drops are needed at a time. The sauce has a subtle yellow tint but doesn’t impart any discoloration to the skin.

Personal Thoughts

Using May Coop Raw Sauce

When incorporated into my existing skincare routine, I did not notice any significant improvements compared to using my routine alone. When used on its own, I found that it left my skin feeling somewhat tight and required additional moisturizer. Although it claimed to provide a glowing effect, the results were not as dramatic as anticipated. There was a slight glow immediately after application, but it did not persist overnight.

One notable benefit was its effectiveness in addressing a persistent dry patch on my skin, which disappeared after regular use. However, I did not observe any significant whitening or anti-aging effects.

Conclusion

Would I buy it again?
I wouldn’t repurchase May Coop Raw Sauce for its brightening or anti-aging claims. However, if you struggle with dry patches or need additional hydration, this product might be worth trying. Its ability to alleviate dryness was the standout feature for me.
